AAK Ceremony
A ceremony on the beach marking the beginning of turtle season in Playa del Carmen.
How can a seasonal ecological event become a shared ceremony?
AAK Ceremony took place on the beach in Playa del Carmen to mark the beginning of turtle season. The shoreline shaped the gathering: an edge between sea and land, and a place of return, nesting and new life.
Sound, moving image and collective ritual formed one shared passage. The ceremony connected the seasonal change with the human act of gathering, making the turtle season part of an experience in the place where it unfolds.
