Herbarium Maya
A living landscape of Maya plant ecology, knowledge, stories and relationships.
What if a herbarium were not a catalogue, but a living landscape of knowledge?
Herbarium Maya is a Readri project exploring the relationships around plants. Plant forms, ecological connections, recorded uses, preparation, sources, locations, stories and Maya-cosmology context become parts of a living archive.
The working archive contains around 200 plant records across nine fields. Plants connect through use, place, care and the parts people work with. These relationships become pathways through the archive.
02 / Living archive
The digital form is conceived as an interactive map or branching archive. Scientific names sit beside Maya and common names; recorded uses sit beside their sources and locations. Individual records open into a larger ecology.
The interface is a way to make relationships visible. The aim is a botanical archive that can be wandered: a landscape of plants, knowledge and care.
Preserve plant records, sources, locations and context.
Connect plants through ecology, use, care and knowledge.
Turn the archive into an interactive landscape of discovery.
